The chronological arrangement of entries depends on the earliest-known appearance of each allusion: in manuscript, under year of composition; in book form, under year of publication. The usefulness of the catalog is increased by alphabetical indexes of the names of allusion makers and the titles of works in which the allusion appear, the names of persons alluded to, and the Spenserian passage to which individual allusions occur.
