About the Author
J. G. de Roulhac Hamilton (1878–1961) was born in Hillsborough, NC. He earned an M.A. from the University of the South in 1900. He received his Ph.D. from University of North Carolina in 1906 and taught there until he became the inaugural director of the Southern Historical Collection.
