The North Carolina Society for the Preservation of Antiquities was founded on the eve of World War II primarily to resurrect Tryon Palace but grew in the postwar era to battle for the preservation of historic buildings throughout the state.

About the Author

David Louis Sterrett Brook received a J.D. from the College of Law, Ohio State University, and an M.A. in history from North Carolina State University. He served as administrator of the State Historic Preservation Office, North Carolina Division of Archives and History.
