About the Authors

H. Tyler Blethen is professor of history at Western Carolina University. He earned a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Since 1985, Dr. Blethen has also been head of the Mountain Heritage Center at Western Carolina University.

Curtis W. Wood, Jr., is emeritus professor of history at Western Carolina University. He earned a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
