About the Author

Jan-Michael Poff earned his undergraduate degree at James Madison University and a master’s degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Before becoming editor of The Colonial Records of North Carolina (Second Series) in 2001, he served as editor of modern governors’ documentaries and edited The Addresses and Public Papers of James Baxter Hunt Jr., Governor of North Carolina (2 vols.) and The Addresses and Public Papers of James Grubbs Martin, Governor of North Carolina (2 vols.). With Robert J. Cain he co-edited Volume XI of The Colonial Records of North Carolina (Second Series), The Church of England in North Carolina: Documents, 1742-1763.
