I acquire and edit books on United States, Latin American, and Caribbean history aimed toward a broad range of audiences, including general, student, and scholarly readers. Regardless of what format a book may take – trade, coursebook, or research title – I seek work that accessibly links places, people, and events from past to present, drawing on a creative and interrogative use of original sources to tell a lively story. While sweeping in periodization, from the precolonial to the modern era, my interests tend to steer toward history from the bottom-up, focusing on the voices and experiences of non-elite people and institutions. My areas of particular interest include Black history; the history of the African diaspora; histories of enslavement, abolition, and freedom; histories of gender, women, and sexualities; the history of the Americas in a global context; military history; Latinx history; legal history; and borderlands history.
I have a BA and an MA in history from Clark University and Indiana University, respectively. Prior to joining UNCP in 2019, I worked at Scribner, Palgrave, New York University Press, and Cambridge University Press. In addition to acquiring books, I’ve worked on two journals, The American Historical Review and Modern American History.
