Emily Spangenberg, Acquisitions Assistant

I assist acquisitions in general US history, African American history, Latinx history, Latin American and Caribbean history, the history of the Americas in a global context, and military history. I provide support for book projects during the acquisitions process, including facilitating peer review, managing project files, and working with authors to prepare their manuscripts for transmission to production.

Prior to joining the Press, I worked with nonprofit legal aid organizations and in higher education, most recently as a program coordinator at the Institute for the Study of the Americas at UNC-Chapel Hill. There, I supported the creation of municipal language access programs across North Carolina and facilitated public talks on Central American migration to the United States. I have also worked as a sociology instructor, researcher, interpreter, and translator. I have an academic background in Latin American Studies and Sociology, which I studied at the graduate level at the University of Texas at Austin (MA in Latin American Studies and ABD in Sociology). My research focused on the politics of environmental health related to mining activity in Argentina. I also hold a BA in Journalism, Political Science, and Spanish from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
