The University of North Carolina Press was founded in 1922 to publish distinguished scholarly work for the academy, and general interest works for the people of the state, the region, and beyond. The depth and breadth of the numerous awards received, including the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize in History, confirm that UNC Press is one of the top university presses in the nation with an international reputation for excellence. Ways You Can Support UNC Press
Books Make Great Gifts–Buy our Books
UNC Press has a title for everyone on your list from family and friends to colleagues and clients. Book sales cover 65% of our annual expenses, so purchasing a UNC Press book is a wonderful way to support the Press. Don’t forget to purchase a title or two for yourself as well.
And Gifts Make Great Books–Become a Friend of UNC Press
Private support covers 30% of the Press’s annual expenses. All who make a financial gift become a “Friend of UNC Press.” You can join with the Press’s many Friends by making a gift to:
- The Annual Fund provides unrestricted funds for day-to-day operational expenses, allowing the Press to direct funds to where the current need is greatest.
- Endowment Funds, both restricted and unrestricted, provide increasingly essential, steady revenue streams for multi-year publishing projects. Gifts may be given to existing funds or may be used to create new named endowments at $150,000 or more.
- Special Funds provide expendable funds for specific initiatives. Current examples include the Authors Fund supporting authors’ first books and the William E. Leuchtenburg Fund to support career-defining books.
- Planned Gifts provide broad support through bequests and beneficiary designations from retirement and insurance policies. In addition to being a Friend, donors making Planned Gifts are recognized as members of The First Edition Society.
You can contact Director of Development Joanna Ruth Marsland (listed below) about the philanthropic intent of your Endowment Fund, Special Fund, or Planned Gift donation.
