UNC Press is happy to provide examination and desk copies to instructors in both print and digital formats.
All examination copies are provided at the discretion of the University of North Carolina Press.
Electronic Examination Copies
Most UNC Press books are available to instructors as electronic exam copies free of charge/at no cost.
Please verify that the book you’re requesting is available as an ebook. New ebooks are released monthly, so contact us if it is not yet present on the book’s webpage.
Complete and submit our Electronic Exam Copy Order Form. You will be asked to supply your institutional (.edu) email address (we cannot process digital exam copy requests with personal email addresses), departmental contact information, as well as the name of the course, anticipated enrollment, and semester when it will be taught. If the ebook is available, a link to the online exam copy (via VitalSource, viewable on any device in any web browser) will be sent to your inbox.
Electronic exam copies are offered free of charge to instructors teaching relevant courses in an upcoming semester.
Print Examination Copies
Please submit your print exam copy request on departmental letterhead, and include in your request:
- Name of the course
- Anticipated enrollment
- Semester course will be taught
- Your office telephone number and email address

Alternatively, download the Exam Copy Order Form for your submission. Please limit requests to three titles per semester. To keep payment information secure, we cannot process examination copy requests via email or phone.
Costs
Exam copies of books priced under $30 are available to course instructors for $6.00. Exam copies of books priced at $30 and higher are sold at a 50% discount, with free shipping (please include your local sales tax). Prepayment is required.

How to Order a Print Desk Copy
Once you have adopted a UNC Press book for a course and placed an order for 10 or more copies via your campus or local bookstore, you may request a free print desk copy.
Include in your request:
- Name of the course
- Approximate enrollment
- Office telephone number and email address
- Name of the campus/local bookstore that handles your textbook sales
