Alexis Dumain, Acquisitions Assistant

I assist Debbie Gershenowitz with her work acquiring books in history. The process by which manuscripts transform into books requires both creativity and diligence. Whether assessing an initial manuscript or finalizing a transmittal for production, I find my work at The Press stimulating and meaningful because it contributes to the dissemination of ideas and stories. It also proves an English degree can be useful after all! I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in May 2023 with degrees in English (Creative Nonfiction specifically) and Psychology. Though a Chapel Hill native, I have taken several global interludes, including a gap year in Peru, Costa Rica, Vietnam, and France, and working at a summer camp in Istanbul, Turkey, post-grad. In addition to my work at the Press, I work as a Producer at The Monti, a storytelling nonprofit in Durham.
