UNC Press manages subsidiary rights for most of its books and journals, helping our authors to reach global audiences in different formats and languages. If you are interested in licensing foreign language, audio, book club, film, or any other rights for our publications please contact us. Permission Request for Use of UNC Press Materials

We encourage requestors to first consider fair use before submitting requests. If you are not familiar with fair use there are good resources online including Stanford University Libraries and Jane Friedman’s publishing blog.

Text Permissions

If you wish to request permission to republish text from a UNC Press publication in another book, journal, or other educational media, please complete and submit our online Permission Request Form

Illustration Permissions

If you wish to request permission to republish an illustration, map, table, or other material, please note that rights to most illustrations used in works copyrighted by the University of North Carolina Press are not controlled by the Press, but by the owner of the image. Please check the credit line below each illustration, as well as the front and back matter of the book for a list of credits. You must obtain permission directly from the owner of the image. Occasionally, maps or other drawings are controlled by the University of North Carolina Press. Please direct permission requests for these images as noted below.
