Republication Permissions
Permission Request for Use of UNC Press Materials
We encourage requestors to first consider fair use before submitting requests. If you are not familiar with fair use there are good resources online including Stanford University Libraries and Jane Friedman’s publishing blog.
Text Permissions
If you wish to request permission to republish text from a UNC Press publication in another book, journal, or other educational media, please complete and submit our online Permission Request Form.
Illustration Permissions
If you wish to request permission to republish an illustration, map, table, or other material, please note that rights to most illustrations used in works copyrighted by the University of North Carolina Press are not controlled by the Press, but by the owner of the image. Please check the credit line below each illustration, as well as the front and back matter of the book for a list of credits. You must obtain permission directly from the owner of the image. Occasionally, maps or other drawings are controlled by the University of North Carolina Press. Please direct permission requests for these images as noted below.

Permission for E-Reserve and Online Course Use
Scanning copyrighted material on e-reserves and on course websites, such as those hosted by Sakai or Web CT, or those offered by faculty, requires permission of the copyright holder.
Please seek permission via the course builder’s connection to the Copyright Clearance Center (if available) or go directly to their Electronic Course Content Service.
