Generations

An illustrated history of UNC Charlotte’s Department of Art and Art History, Generations chronicles six decades of arts leadership at the university, celebrating the achievement of its faculty, the success of its students, and its influence on the greater Charlotte region. Following anniversary exhibitions in UNC Charlotte’s Rowe Galleries and the Mint Museum, author and curator James F. D. Frakes fully develops in Generations the department’s biographical narrative and preserves the varied and vibrant works of art from faculty and former students featured in the exhibitions. Throughout, Frakes makes apparent the university’s invaluable arts leadership that continues, as it has for sixty years, to argue that art and design are essential parts of a city’s vitality and of our individual lives.
